If you look at the map close here, I almost crashed a 485ft US Navy frigate here.
I was woken up at 3am for my watch on the bridge and we were doing some kind of sonar-buoy thing (I am still not 100% clear what exactly they were trying to do, but I messed it up)..
Anyway, the chart was a very “zoomed” in chart and I thought it was much further “zoomed-out” and so was trying to figure out the scale of the chart and had to call the previous guy back out of sleep and after he had charted us “off the chart” we called it a bust and they moved on after I had figured out where we were..
Later (in port) I went back and looked at the log to where the ship actually was at (we were running dark and it was cloudy).. The ship went right between these two islands at a very fast clip.
