In the Navy I was a QuarterMaster, which is much different than the same named rate in the Army (which is some kind of store clerk), in the Navy a QM is the ships navigator and sits on the bridge..
I had a insane probably-child-molesting creepy guy who was in charge of my division (leading non-commissioned) and most of the time I was bored and turning into a rather bad alcoholic when we were in port.. So, I wanted out of the military, now the rub.. How do you get them to kick you out but still have a honorable discharge? Well, a lot of guys would just smoke pot, punch an officer or jump overboard (in port).. some would fake sleep-walking etc..
I just figured that instead, I would just let “my crazy go wild” and see what happens.. So, at the time I was working doing “mess-duty” which just means you have to take a month-long turn at dishes.. And because the captain liked me, I did my turn in the officers quarters.. Well, one even after dinner I “sleepwalked” all the officers nice dishes over the side of the boat.. I had great fun slinging them into the ocean..
Needless to say “failure to adapt to military lifestyle” was promptly stamped on me which entitled me to my full GI bill (after a year).. So I went to college :)
Though.. I really didn’t have to go that far and I very well could have fallen overboard.
