A Socialight sticker was spotted on a sign post outside Cafe Habana! The biggest “sticky” on the sign is actually advertising a $2395/month studio in the area. What “artist” can actually afford that? Gawker has a write-up.
went for drinks one weekend night – very chill with a good bar to lean on. mostly a local crowd which also just didn’t wanna deal with any ‘tude but wanted a nice, clean beautiful space. people were eating late dinners then too. overall, great minimal spot in a hood more noted for thumping gawdiness. The menu looked simple, but maybe more apt to say simply well done comfort food.
- .

Danbury really sucked my will to live but somehow, miraculously, I managed to meet some cool people:

The White Man (watch out Moose Lodge-this guy will drink your rent and he’s 50 yrs young) and J-Smooth (the only guy I’ve ever seen make a girl cry at a bar in Manhatten just by asking her questions-he’s a lawyer-ask him about getting credit).

Wednesday night was the night where Rimina or Caroline would happiily serve us Samtinis till we smoked all our cigarettes or did shots of Jack-whichever came first.

Thanks Nobe! Even though your Sushi tastes like it was made from fish that came out the Chernoble urinals.

I got to shout out Abart because they recovered my blackberry! I have good phone karma. If I find a phone I always do my best to return it just like I always chase down people who leave their ATM cards in the machine. It’s like an adventure returning phones…

I lost my phone in Vegas once. I woke up the next morning to my friend’s phone ringing and the caller ID said it was me calling? It was in fact my friend Alaina who had flown in from LA. She called my phone to see what I was doing and a stranger picked up and told her he found this phone. So she said stay right there I’m coming to get the phone. This led to a night of fun for Alaina as she was driven around in a limo and got VIP treatment everywhere she went.

Unlike me, your typical schmuch, trying to get into a Vegas nightclub while every girls DD’s, C’s, and B’s, are poking every doorman in the eyeballs. The only people I saw enter the club were Ray Allen (NBA basketball player) and Ed Lover (former MTV V-Jay)

Let this be a lesson to you. Always try and return a phone, if possible.

The “Runner’s Favorite” course remains unchanged
since 2001. The USATF certified course starts at Battery
Park, overlooking Lake Champlain and the Adirondack
Mountains. The opening miles are run through tree-lined
residential streets and Burlington’s pedestrian Marketplace
where an enthusiastic crowd of spectators will inspire you.
At mile 3.7 you will begin a 4.4 mile out and back section
on the Northern Connector, a divided highway which is
closed to traffic only once a year-for your race. On the
Northern Connector you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the
Green Mountains and get a chance to see the leaders and
your friends as you cross paths. At mile 8.1 you return to
the city streets for a second pass through the Marketplace
and a loop of Burlington’s South End. At the halfway point
of the course you’ll enter Oakledge Park and run alongside
Lake Champlain for 2 miles. Mile 15 brings the Assault on
Battery; 6 blocks climbing Battery Street. You’ll see musicians
and throngs of spectators to inspire you up the hill.
The next 6.5 miles takes you out North Avenue on gently
rolling terrain through many shaded neighborhoods. A steep
downhill at mile 21.5 brings you to the Burlington Bikepath,
which provides beautiful lake views and flat to slightly downhill
terrain over the last 4.5 miles. Your finish and all postrace
festivities occur in Waterfront Park where you’ll be
greeted by tens of thousands of cheering spectators.
- .

Sigh. The ‘Pig is a fantastic little hole in the wall in the East Village that looks good on paper – great chocolates, fantastic fondues. Sadly my experience there the other night just wasn’t up to snuff.

Three of us descended on this place with high hopes only to have our eagerness squashed flat roadrunner-style by a congealed lumpy fondue and average to tasteless drinks.

I had a dark hot chocolate which was alright, but not very sweet, but the real tearjerker was our Gruyere fondue which struggled to rise above the level of “watery stew with lumpy bits of garlic and cheese tossed in” but sadly failed. I blame the heat. The tiny little flame underneath the bowl didn’t even seem capable of sustaining a pinprick of light, let alone keeping an entire fondue at melting point. I asked our server what the problem was, but he merely mumbled something inconsequential and slunk off into the corner.

I’m not sure if they were having a bad day or not because everything else (atmosphere, snacks etc) seemed almost perfect, so I will definitely give it a second chance, but I’m going to beware of the fondue.
- .

These are about the only “cheap”/”legal” campsites around Red Rocks. As you can see, they are only a stone’s throw away from the amphitheater. LIke I said before, the view is good if you don’t mind the highway a little ways away or the Home Depot on the hill to the south. Also, if you plan to attend a late show, the camp closes at 9p.m. There is a “back route”, but I would definately get directions BEFORE you leave!! We made the mistake of getting really drunk and drove around for TWO hours before we finally just asked a cop. It’s an unmarked road, so good luck and happy trails.
- .

Stand at this corner in front of the much-written about Village Cigars and you will find a much-less written about triangle embedded into the sidewalk. “Property of the Hess Estate,” it says, “which has never been dedicated for public purposes.” Wha-HUH!? I know. The kerfluffle here is that there used to be a residential building on Christopher Street called the Voorhis. In the 19-teens it was condemned so that the IRT could build right through the Village. But the owner of the Voorhis, a man named David Hess, refused to allow it to happen and bought the tiny 500-square inch triangle you see before you. The refusal to surrender ownership of this land forced the city to discard their plans and the Hesses put in the mosaic to celebrate their victory against The Man. This property has been purchased by Village Cigars in 1922 for $1,000 and the mosaic has remained ever since.
- .

A Goth club, under the arches of London Bridge, which hosts Argentinian Tango lessons just before it opens. Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it! Pay £10 instead of the usual £7, show up at 8pm and you can attend authentic tango dance classes before watching the bands and shaking your bottle-black hair to Industrial and EBM from 10pm onwards. It’s worth it just to watch a room full of goths do the tango].
The dress-code is BLACK. This rule is, basically (in the club owner’s words) to keep tracksuited and trainered drunks out of the club. People dressed up as The Crow will be laughed at according to several regulars. If you do need to turn up dressed formally (e.g. an on-call doctor, nurse or fireman…) then mail tango@bettyfordclinic.co.uk and they will see what they can do. Very helpful and goth as fuck. So get those Drac-cloaks on and those marracas out!

While walking down the street in downtown Scottsdale, you think you keep seeing the same women over and over again…they’re blonde, tan, and have enormously fake breasts. They all stand in line for clubs. Come to find out, they aren’t clones, they just all look pretty much the same. DJ’s is a bar in downtown Scottsdale that actually has a mix of people (I’m not that into blondes), and isn’t packed and loud like a dance club. It’s a chill place to go have a drink. If you order a jim beam and coke, they give you jim beam black, and it’s only $5.
(Approximately) once a year members and guests of the Glorious Tiger Inn at Princeton University aim to party like its a state school. Would seem an unremarkable feat, but you don’t know the library books and protractors bonanza that is typically Princeton. State Night includes dressing in state school wear and performing “feats of state” such as drinking mysterious concoctions, funnelling from great heights, and benchpressing college girls. Statey!!!
- .

This is one of the best places, I think, to see a concert. It’s a natural amphitheature and the acoustics are awesome. There arn’t many campsites around, but there are some for a little cash ($8.00 for two day-passes for 2 people), and that’s at Bear Creek Lake Park @ the Indian Paintbrush Campsites. They are good sites, but the view is the mountains, the highway, and a Home Depot.
- .

It’s a basic sports bar, but you can dance on it! Good place to go on weekends—it’s a low-key atmosphere, lots of early 20s, but you can dance and not just sit around and be bored. Waitresses come around with jello shots, which is a nice touch, and it has a good beer selection. Works for me!

P.S. How great is this picture? It’s called “Dancing on the Bar” (yeah Google Image Search) and is painted by Beryl Cook.
- .

Created in the aftermath of the much loved TRASH, Durrr swaggers clumsily through the gates like a drunk chasing pigeons. Inhabited by teenagers who wave camera-phones around like pistols and schoolgirls out for a monday kiss, the dancefloor leaves something to be desired. Some cool bands play there though occasionally, like Kap Bambino and DIE DIE DIE! Though some crossed wires about the latest obsession with Retro Rave culture saw pseudo-punks dancing to a rave version of an Enya song??!! like WTF? Anyway, there are worse places to spend a monday night… like at the bottom of the Thames with a turntable tied to your braces.
